                                       Flute Choirs for all ages!!

Flute Choirs for Students: 

The Oklahoma Flute Society has offered flutists in grades 7 through 12 the opportunity to participate in flute choirs since 2003!  These ensembles provide young flutists with a unique musical experience, along with the opportunity to explore the beautiful sound of the low alto and bass flutes.  

The OFS youth flute choirs have traditionally been called the “Honor Flute Choirs”.  These ensembles play twice per school year—once in the Fall semester and once in the Spring semester.  For the 2023-24 season, the fall performance will be the Flute Choir Fest, held on Saturday, Nov. 18 at the University of Central Oklahoma.  The spring performance will be at the Flute Fair, held on Saturday, April 6 at Oklahoma City University. 

For each performance, students will be divided into two flute choirs:  one for 7th-8th-9th grade and one for 10th -11th-12th grade.   There are usually one or two rehearsals scheduled prior to a performance.  Sometimes we join the two ensembles together for a giant flute choir! 

To participate in the Oklahoma Flute Society Honor Flute Choirs, follow these steps:

1.  A student will first need to join the OFS.  A student membership in OFS will cover participation in ALL OFS events for a year, so it is a real bargain! 

2. The next step would be to fill out the appropriate online registration form for the event. There will be a registration form for the fall 2023 Flute Choir Fest and another registration form in the spring for the 2024 Flute Fair.

 

Flute Choirs for Adults: 

The Oklahoma Flute Society Adult Flute Choir has been performing since 1997 and is open to any adult flutist.  The ensemble plays at Oklahoma Flute Society events such as the Flute Choir Fest and the Flute Fair.  The group also performs several concerts a year at nursing homes or retirement homes.  Rehearsals are usually held on Sunday afternoons from 2-4 at the University of Central Oklahoma.    Rehearsal dates and times will vary depending on the schedules of the members.  If you are interested in trying out the OFS Adult Flute Choir, contact Natalie Syring to be put on the OFS Adult Flute Choir e-mail list.
